Ballet blockbuster

By ROB McLEAN IT WASN’T quite the stage they were used to but ballet dancers Dana Stephenson and Daniel Gaudiello seemed right at home on the PS Industry yesterday. The Brisbane based pair were preparing for tonight’s performance of Don Quixote by the Australian Ballet Company at the Riverland’s Chaffey Theatre. If their timing yesterday was anything to go by, they should be right on the mark when they take to the stage tonight. Stephenson, who has been with the company for six years and has danced in such exotic locations as Paris, London and Shanghai, said touring a stage production such as Don Quixote in regional areas is a career highlight. “It’s a great opportunity for the ballet to come to these regional areas and to get support from local towns and provide a fun night of world class entertainment in the country,” she said. While perhaps not as glamorous as some other bookings, Gaudiello said that country performances provide their own challenges that, as professionals, the dancers thrive upon. “It’s a good challenge technically and artistically,” he said.
