The Berri Merri Xmas is in jeopardy if the Berri District Business Association cannot attract more committee members.

By BRAD PERRY THE long term future of the Berri District Business Association (BDBA) appears uncertain after just four businesses were represented at the group’s recent annual general meeting. With 48 businesses in the association and just five committee members, the group is struggling to stay alive and continue to provide a valuable service to Berri and its surroundings. BDBA secretary Barry Phillips said the group’s constitution requires eight committee members for the association to continue. “We are saying if you want to be a member we need more than just paying your subscription, we need more involvement,” he said. “Out of 48 members, it is disappointing that there aren’t more than four businesses who are willing to be represented either on the committee or come along and attend a meeting,” he said. “For the association to perform and do what we want to be doing, that is, out there promoting and running activities, seeking funding grants, liaising with council, State Government and other stakeholders, it needs more than five people. “There are people on the committee who are already noting if this is how it is going to be, then there really doesn’t seem to be any future after this year.” With the BDBA organising the popular Berri Merri Xmas and Berri Easter Car...
